To kick off the festive countdown Marc recommends: ‘Be More Pirate’ by Sam Conniff Allende

I first noticed this book during a Virtual Assessment over Zoom with a Law firm Partner.  The participant was sitting in front of their bookcase (sound familiar?) and screaming out at me, amidst an eclectic collection of serious-looking literary spines, was this bright pink cover boasting the word ‘Pirate’.

There was an unmistakable twinkle in their eye when the participant recommended the book as one of their top reads: ‘Be More Pirate’ by Sam Conniff Allende. Since then the book has also become a firm favourite of mine.

If you are stuck in a rut and everything around you feels similarly stuck… if you appreciate freedom of thought and hunger after true democracy wherein no one is judged... if you are a leader interested in understanding and adopting the true traits of inclusive leadership, or if you want to learn about what it is to be a modern-day pirate (living amongst other modern-day pirates), then this could be just the read for you.

‘Be More Pirate’ came at just the right time and reminded me of the benefits that can accompany challenging the status quo. The world was floundering in the ambiguity of what felt like a never-ending lockdown, leaving me feeling isolated and unsteady with the new norm. This book helped me to refocus and stimulate new purpose and creative thought. For these reasons, I remain extremely grateful.
